Judge Manning will lead a panel discussion of local experts, Attorney Van Pearlberg and Rabbi Steve Lebow, who will be talking with us about The Leo Frank case. Murder in the Progressive South: Sex, Race, Religion and Class on trial in the Leo Frank case On the day after Confederate Memorial Day 1913, the body of 13 year-old Mary Phagan was found in the basement of pencil factory where she worked. Her boss, Leo Frank, was convicted of her murder. While he was pursuing his appeals and after the Governor commuted his sentence from capital punishment to life imprisonment, Frank was spirited out of prison by a mob comprised of local Marietta citizens, and he was lynched near where the Big Chicken is today. The case still fascinates, still horrifies and still puzzles historians. Vitual option via Zoom available.
